World’s Most Expensive Playboy Magazine

World's Most Expensive Playboy Magazine

Playboy magazine has barely skipped a month since the first issue was published at the close of 1953. That’s over 600 issues of *cough* gentleman’s entertainment. The magazine isn’t all scantily clad women, though—it’s also featured original fiction by authors such as Stephen King and Arthur C. Clarke.

The first issue of Hugh Hefner’s notorious mag featured film icon Marilyn Monroe on its cover—and in the bawdy interior. The cover photo was taken during the 1952 Miss America Parade, for which Monroe was criticized for the low neckline of her dress. The interior photo had been intended for use in a calendar. The premiere issue was undated, due to doubts as to whether there would be a second. Even the iconic Playboy Bunny was missing until the second issue.

Issues of the undated first issue of Playboy can be purchased for up to $6300, depending on the condition. Should you wish to purchase one for yourself, however, be careful of the 2007 reprint. It can be identified by the black rectangle in the upper right corner and the three staples used to bind it. The original had a black square and only two staples.
