Housing Estate N – An Eccentric World Built of Cardboard

“Abandoned Housing Estate Number N” is a unique miniature city, made entirely from corrugated cardboard.

So far I’ve seen a city made of toothpicks, another one made of staples, but this is the first cardboard city, for me. Created by a Japanese artist whose name eludes me, Housing Estate Number N is an ever-growing project that started back in 2001. The paradox of this art installation is that although it’s mostly abandoned, it keeps growing and evolving, with each passing day.

Some of the rooms in the estate are lit and completely furnished, while others are dark and empty. There are even some eerie characters that look like haunting spirits. Though pretty bizarre, Housing Estate N is an inspiring project that will keep growing as long as its creator desires it.

Sand Crop Circles by Andres Amador

Andres Amador works with one of the biggest canvases available, with entire lengths of beaches swallowed up by his art. Sadly the sea is no discerning art critic, for once the San Francisco artist finishes his staggering artwork, the waves come in to wipe the slate clean.

Many of his stunning images, which start out as simple squiggles in the 39-year-old's notebook, span an incredible 500x300feet and are raked into the grains in a race against the tide.

Using a canvas crafted by the elements the patient American waits for a full or new moon to make sure low tides offer him plenty of space to muster the incredible patterns.

VW Beetle House Restaurant

In Europe, one man has designed two buildings. One of them is a house, the other is a restaurant and bar. Both of those buildings look like Volkswagen Beetles.

The house, which is in a cozy suburban neighborhood near Salzburg, Austria, was completed in 2003.

The restaurant, dubbed The Car, was completed in 2007 and is located north of Salzburg. It reportedly cost €1.6 million to build.
