RIL: won Mumbai for Rs 447.6 crore.
India Cements: snagged Chennai for Rs 364 crore,
UB Group: picked up Bangalore for Rs 446.4 crore.
UK’s Emerging Media: won Jaipur for Rs 268 crore.
Deccan Chronicle Holdings : picked up Hyderabad for Rs 428.04 crore, and
Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Jay Mehta: bagged the Kolkata team for Rs 300.36 crore.
Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Karan Paul, Mohit Burman: won the Mohali team for Rs 304 crore
3) IPL has contracted the top 77 cricketers according to ICC rankings.It allowed each franchisee to bid for Indian and overseas players contracted by IPL. At most 8 overseas players are allowed per franchisee.
4) Sports broadcaster Sony Max and sports rights company World Sport Group have jointly paid US$1.026bn for the rights to the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket championship.
5) The organizers raised a whopping Rs 7,000 crore from the auction. Franchisees will now market their individual teams and christen them in consultation with IPL. The rights last for ten years, starting from this year.
6) Franchisees will pick up
- 80% of TV revenues in the first and second years,
- 70% in the third and the fourth years, and
- 60% from the fifth to tenth years.
7) Bidding for the 77 available players reached about $40 million and $1.026 billion paid for the initial television rights and $723.6 million for franchise ownership.
8) Dhoni and Symonds fetch the highest prices in IPL bidding with $1.5 million and $1.35 million respectively
