Cases for War: Toy Soldiers Slinging Nuclear Shelving Units

Art, design, political commentary … or all of the above? This series of shelving units is clearly set to spark an international incident – at least between the strange shining gold soldiers holding them up from below.

As if the armed toys and distinctive shapes carved into the wooden fronts of each piece were not sufficiently suggestive, the shelves are also stacked with the classic Art of War treatise by Sun Tzu – a none-too-subtle touch by the designer from Singapore known as Daniel Love(‘s Objects).

Crafted of light-bleached wood and placed against white walls and floors, the blank backdrop and cursive script point to an epic tale being unfolded through these mute minions of disaster – a glorification of war or commentary on the way history writes of battles with rose-colored (or night-vision) goggles? And on the bloody morning after, does one gold soldier ride away?
